Eid Mubarak, The Slaves of Solitude, EartH & Alternative Carnival (B+A Bulletin #152)

Hullo. Hullo. Hi.
How are you feeling today?
B+A in emoji format :Ā šŸš€

We’ve got a ‘Breaking’ so epic it deserves two pictures, which is usually out of the question…

Andre + Aminah have just finished Hackney Goats, our first ever Problem Solving Training Programme experiment. 8 musicians. 5 missions. 5 days. This ā€˜business accelerator programme for musiciansā€™ was in partnership with our great friends at Rising Tide in Hackney. Hackney G.O.A.Ts is the first of many B+A experiments to come. Keep your eyes peeled for more!

B+A Brilliance

Yesterday was Eid (Mubarak, everyone!), and hereā€™s our Outlier, Aminah schoolin’ us on the celebrations.

Yesterday,Ā Eid-ul-Adha, marks theĀ closingĀ of the pilgrimage Muslims make from Mecca to Madina for a period of 10 days. It is also theĀ beginningĀ of a new month. For Muslims,Ā these days are a time to make as many good deeds as possible –Ā to share happiness,Ā feed those around you as well as those who are less fortunate and work on dropping some bad habits. In sum, expect a lot of food, a lot of invitations to eat and anĀ abundance of love.

B+A Books etc.

Shout out to Luke for discovering a great comedy read – its a rarity! The Slaves of Solitude by Patrick Hamilton tells the story of a socially awkward woman during WW2. It is lighthearted – with a very dark undertone : intriguing right?

B+A Big Up

Our Abi Findlay is a woman of many talents, and many excellent side hustles. This is one of them.Ā The team behind London’s Village Underground have resurrected the old Savoy cinema in Dalston as a multi-purpose arts space, opening in September. Big Up 72+Sunny one time on the rebrand. Going forward this space will be known as EartH (Evolutionary Arts Hackney). Click this link, watch this videoĀ (1 min)Ā and prepare to get in line for the insane Autumn listings.

B+A Babble

Claudia Jones,Ā a Trinidadian human rights activist based in London, put on a BBC broadcasted indoor ā€˜Caribbean Carnivalā€™ at St Pancras Town Hall back in 1959. She is widely credited with sowing the seeds for carnival in the UK by doing so.Ā There’s a countdown of T-3 days until London celebrates all over again.

But if you donā€™t think you can stomach the frenzied atmosphere of mas on Carnival Sunday or Monday, go to the UK National Panorama Steelband CompetitionĀ at Emslie Horniman Pleasance park the night before : its a calmer vibe, but a vibe nonetheless.

B+A Bye…

’til next week you wonderful humans.

Love,
Team B+A
