Ice Watch, The Lost Lending Library, KnowVember Revisited & Theaster Gates (B+A Bulletin #168)

B+A Breaking

On the first day of Christmas, my inbox gave to me…

B+A Bulletin one six eeiiiight 🎁

Ok fine, that doesn’t quite work. And while the countdown to the big day is starting to kick off in London – how could it not with Nicola in the building? – B+A global is still fighting the good fight, with Jenny, AndrĂ© and Tamika in NYC, and Ben and Andrew reunited under the sparkling lights of LA (see above).

And the world hasn’t stopped turning just yet, so here’s ya latest. No stocking fillers, promise…

B+A Brilliance

5 blocks of ice, each weighing between 1.5 and 5 tonnes, have just been installed in front of London’s Tate Modern, in a new addition to their curatorial season by Olafur Eliasson. The ice blocks were fished out of the Nuup Kangerlua fjord in Greenland, having detached from the melting ice sheet, and shipped to the UK. In their new position they can be touched, moved through and witnessed as they melt.

It’s art meets environmental protest, and you’ve only got 10 days to check it out before it’s too late.

B+A Books etc.

KnowVember: the gift that keeps on giving. After all our cultural learnings last month, it seems there was one last lesson to squeeze out: which was how NOT to title an email newsletter. So ICYMI (and we’ve seen the stats, a lot of you did), last month we did lots of interesting things and documented them in an extra special disruptive Bulletin that might pique your interest.

B+A Big Up

It’s simple. “Literacy is the most important tool for young people to have access to life changes in the future.” So says Peter Higgin of Punchdrunk, who are currently mid-fundraising campaign for their incredible project The Lost Lending Library. Even if you’re not planning to donate, watch the very magical video above (no but actually do, it’s extraordinary).

And if you do want to give, donations are currently being matched through the Big Give, so now’s the time to get involved.

B+A Babble

This TED talk by potter Theaster Gates is a gift from Tamika, who came across one of his pieces in Portland Art Museum and got investigating. It’s about how to activate and ignite communities through creating beautiful spaces. Gates is humble, thoughtful and wise af. Another video I know, but well worth the 17 minutes.

B+A Bye…

Yep that’s it, until next time at least.

And if you’re in need of a neat last minute present that can be sourced entirely from your office supplies, we’ve got you covered…
